Splitgate 2 – Custom Animated Typeface

A kinetic type system built from Splitgate’s DNA — trails, tech, and tempo.

Challenge:
Create a unique, animated typographic system that extends the Splitgate 2 brand into motion — something versatile enough for trailers, UI moments, and promotional assets, while staying visually rooted in the game’s core identity.

Approach:
— Started with the primary brand font and built on Splitgate’s iconic visuals: portal trails, high-energy motion, and bold UI outlines
— Designed fully animated characters with colorful motion trails that feel like text is exiting a portal
— Integrated outline styling from in-game UI to maintain visual cohesion across mediums
— Built modular After Effects templates with expression controllers for easy reuse

A bespoke animated typeface system that is fully customizable within After Effects — allowing teams to quickly adapt the style across assets. Users can control:

  • Primary fill color
  • Secondary trail fill color
  • Line accent color
  • Animation speed
All without keyframe editing, thanks to built-in controllers.

What I Delivered:

  • Full animated character set in AE (uppercase, numbers, key symbols)
  • AE controller system for motion speed + color variations
  • Documentation for use across trailers, end slates, content creator kits
  • Scalable system that ties together video, UI, and gameplay branding
